Cube is the first contemporary style building to feature in Chigwell Village for 15 years. It was the only new development building on both the doorstop of the London Underground and local shopping in Chigwell.
Consisting of three residential floors with a penthouse, all material was installed by A13 Steel. This installation project also had specific requirements that needed to be approved by the Rail Network as the residential building was located close to a London Underground station. This is where A13 Steel’s Health & Safety department had to ensure that everything was completed according to plan.
This development was one of the first larger projects for A13 Steel. For this project. A13 Steel was required to provide connection design, setting out, all structural steelwork fabrication, delivery and installation. Engineers had to be flexible as there were 2 stages on each floor which meant that the design had to be split as well. Added to this, the client requested additional steelwork on each floor where most of it had been previously installed. This resulted in slight adjustments and challenges to install those steels. A13 Steel’s transport department lorries had limited access on-site. In addition, A13 Steel had to ensure that all work was completed efficiently as they were delivering a lot of steelwork at one go – so the sequence in loading and offloading was crucial. All steelwork was offloaded using A13 Steel’s lorry-mounted cranes and assisted by the installation team. The project was further challenged by other subcontractors and ongoing jobs on-site which made the project more complicated; however the entire works was installed successfully and the project delivered on time.
