Magnetic Particle Inspection at A13 Steel Warehouse

As part of being CE approved supplier we always ensure that regular inspections are carried in our company. Ian Whatsize and WeldInspect Ltd recently carried Magnetic Particle inspection to prove our competence and high standards in steel fabrication industry.

Magnetic Particle Inspection is known as NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) and it is carried out as part of routine inspection to quantify the welds are free from Linear or Rounded indications i.e. detecting surface and shallow subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as iron.

MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION IS PERFORMED IN FOUR STEPS:

1. Induce a magnetic field in the specimen
2. Apply magnetic particles to the specimen’s surface
3. View the surface, looking for particle groupings that are caused by defects
4. Demagnetise and clean the specimen.

Ian and his team inspected all of our welders and then issued reports that can be placed in the CE package for our customers. The equipment that was used is the latest portable technology where by a battery using synergy waves transforms DC power into true AC power allowing to use the electric Magnetic Yoke portably on site without having the need to drag 100V extension leads everywhere.
